Hear Joni speak about making those routine prayers more meaningful.
Hi, I’m Joni Eareckson Tada. And I grew up saying grace before a meal, but I must admit, it wasn’t the most exciting prayer of the day. Blessing a meal can sometimes feel like a rote exercise, repeating the same few sentences or we vary them slightly depending on whether or not the food is getting cold or the rest of the family is ravenously hungry. So, how can you make those 15-second prayers more meaningful? Well, how about singing a hymn of Thanksgiving or a praise song around the table? Or memorizing a prayer the family can say together? Learn a Bible verse on gratitude and ask your son to recite it aloud—like 1 Chronicles 16, “Give thanks to the Lord, for He is good, His love endures forever.” However you do it, saying grace can be a creative way to offer gratitude to God and strengthen family unity. After all, there is, should be, more than one way to express your gratitude to God.
