Years in Joni’s wheelchair has taught her to find breathtaking joy in the smallest, most ordinary moments.

Episode Transcription

Hi, I’m Joni Eareckson Tada. And as I’ve grown older—or maybe it’s something I’ve cultivated through many years in my wheelchair—I’ve noticed that, more and more, I find pleasure in the smallest of things. When my get-up helper in the morning puts a hot, steaming wash cloth on my face. Or the way rose branches bob in the rain. Or listening to the piano of Fernando Ortega as I lay in bed at night. I don’t know how to describe it, but all these things bring such joy. And so, I praise God for how he’s used this wheelchair to cultivate a thankful spirit within my heart, to give thanks always and for everything as Ephesians 5 puts it. You know someone once wrote, “The unthankful heart discovers no mercies, but let the thankful heart sweep through the day and, as the magnet finds the iron, so it will find, in every hour, some heavenly blessings!” Find a blessing in your day and be thankful!
