And not long ago, I heard from a woman named Erin who mentioned that she always prayed for people like me who struggle with chronic pain or disability, but that she had not put much time into praying for those who cared for people like me. Erin said, “Joni, caregivers like your husband Ken and your girlfriends are powerful influences on those who receive their care, and I want to pray for caregivers’ love to shine as brightly as their heavenly crowns will shine when they leave them at Jesus’s feet. Glorious crowns, glorious caregivers!” Oh, dear friend, if you care for a special needs child or an aging parent, be encouraged by James 1: “Blessed is the one who perseveres…for he will receive the crown of life.” Soon, Jesus will tell you, “Well done good and faithful servant.” Because that’s what you are, if you’re a caregiver.
