Make your repentance deep and it’ll bring a lasting and a joyful change.
Hi, I’m Joni Eareckson Tada. And everyone knows that if you want to paint a fence, you have to first scrape off the old paint. You may even have to sand the fence boards down, getting rid of every fleck and speck of old paint. Why? Well, if you don’t, you’ll only be covering a weak spot – a spot when it rains; later on and then dries, will peel off, leaving your fence as ugly as it was in the beginning. And this is a great illustration of just how deep our repentance should go. When the Bible tells us to repent, it means not only acknowledging you did something wrong; you know, changing your mind or your way of living. Repentance means going back and, as much as it is possible, making things right; asking forgiveness or making restitution for the wrongs you’ve committed – anything less is just covering up your old ways. So, make your repentance deep for it’ll bring a lasting and a joyful change.
