Episode Transcription

Hi, I’m Joni Eareckson Tada. And recently I was touring a special needs department in a large church. Cindy, the director, showed me the Sunday school room designed for small children with autism. Several of the little chairs around the tables had big beanbags attached to the flat seats – the beanbag was designed as part of the chair. And when I asked about it, Cindy explained that when kids with autism sit on these chairs, they really have to concentrate to keep their balance. And she said with a smile, “And that concentration spills over into their Sunday school lesson. We find they are able to focus so much more on our Bible teachings.” Oh, my goodness, what will they come up with next? You know, Ecclesiastes says there’s nothing new under the sun, but this little beanbag chair for kids with autism might challenge that verse! Find out how your church can serve children by visiting us at joniandfriends.org.
