Hi, I’m Joni Eareckson Tada. It was Talent Night at our Family Retreat – a night of fun in which the special needs families gather together to present a play, or offer a joke, or play a musical instrument. Well, Cindy wanted to sing a song. The thing is, Cindy is non-verbal. Those of us in the audience did not know how this was going to work, but then she turned her wheelchair to the audience, and pressed a button on her communication device. Out came, “Amazing grace, how sweet the sound that saved a wretch like me!” And there was Cindy mouthing the words. Oh, my goodness, it brought tears. Psalm 40 says, “He [has] put a new song in my mouth,” and “Amazing Grace” was sung that night in a way we will never forget. Think you’d like to experience what a Talent Night is like and help out? Then go to joniandfriends.org and learn more ways about how you can participate at our next Family Retreat.
