Episode Transcription

Hi, I’m Joni Eareckson Tada. And last year, while planning for a Family Retreat, we put out a request for miniature pinewood derby cars so that we could hold a race for special-needs families. It was a pretty specific request, so you can imagine our surprise when we get a call from 16-year-old Matt who is an Eagle Scout. Matt said he would be glad to make enough pinewood derby cars for each camper—enough for three Family Retreats. That’s a total of 200 derby cars! And what made it extra special? Matt wanted to help because he has a brother with a disability. Oh friend, this young man was following 1 Peter 4, using his skills as a scout and the gift of having a sibling with a disability, to serve others and bring a smile to these families. And you bring a smile too! If you’d like to learn how you can chip in and help our Family Retreat campers, visit joniandfriends.org.
