Pain may test you to the core, but the king of pain will never abandon you.
Hi, I’m Joni Eareckson Tada. And sometimes it seems as if the scoliosis in my spine has but one goal: to rob me of joy. When pain bites into my hip with its sharp teeth, I can even lose the joy of my salvation. To be sure, I would never discard my salvation, but I can easily slip into a coping kind of Christianity, the kind that muddles through just to get by. The kind that stops believing in the hope of God's deliverance. Oh, but friend, don’t believe it. It is a white-hot lie from hell. Pain may test the mettle of the most stalwart Christian, but it does not have to destroy our faith. Satan will try to discourage you into believing that God has abandoned you, but God is with you. Jesus is the king of pain; and because he endured it for the joy set before him, that same endurance is yours from Psalm 51: “Restore to me the joy of my salvation and grant me a willing spirit, to sustain me.”
