Episode Transcription

Hi, I’m Joni Eareckson Tada. And I often hear people say that God is not being fair. An earthquake hits, a relative passes away, a job is lost—and the result? “God's unfair.” But let me share with you this analogy: Have you ever walked into a room halfway through someone else's argument and you’ve been asked for your opinion? It's impossible to respond. Because you don't have all the facts; you can't give a true assessment of things. Well, this is much like trying to discern whether or not God is fair in any given situation. Isaiah 40 says “Who has understood the mind of the Lord?” [And by the way, that’s a rhetorical question because the truth is: you don’t have all the facts, and you won't have them until you get to the other side of eternity.] So, remember, God is not fair according to our perspective—but God is just and loving, and his values and purposes are always higher than our own.
