Episode Transcription

Hi, I’m Joni Eareckson Tada. The Bible bids us to take up our cross daily and follow Jesus. But just how does one do that? Some people think that to daily bear a cross means caring for a chronically ill family member or putting up with a husband who does not communicate or living from paycheck to paycheck. Well, it may mean those things, but the bottom-line is something a little different. If Jesus died for our sins on his cross, then taking up your cross means dying to your sins that he died for on his cross. That’s what Philippians 3 means when it tells us to become like him in his death. A cross is an instrument of death – and when we take it up daily, we learn how to die to ourselves, to our selfish wants and wishes. But take heart, because the cross also means life. Not just life eternal, but joy and peace and power in the midst of your hardships! It’s why the good news of the cross is always great news!
