Tune in to hear Joni reminisce about a touching moment on a National Day of Prayer observance she attended.
Hi, I’m Joni Eareckson Tada. And I remember when we held a National Day of Prayer observance at Joni and Friends. To begin the ceremony, we asked Hannington Mutebi [he works in our development department] to lead us in the pledge of allegiance. As I watched him with his hand over his heart, repeating the familiar words with his Ugandan accent, I fought back tears. He was wearing a U.S. military uniform. Hannington’s story is a true American story. Immigrating from Uganda in 1999, he got his green card, joined the U.S. Army, served in Afghanistan, came home to the states, became a citizen. The G.I. Bill even made it possible for him to go to UCLA and graduate with an MBA in finance and now he works with Joni and Friends. Deuteronomy 10:19 says, “To love the foreigner…” so, in the name of Jesus, welcome the hardworking immigrant. Please visit us today at joniradio.org.
