Episode Transcription

Hi, I’m Joni Eareckson Tada. And when people think of loving someone, they usually think of giving. But I have learned to understand that loving also means asking. Just look at the example of Jesus – at the most critical time in his life on earth – the night before his crucifixion – Jesus asked his disciples, “Be with me, please? Stay with me; be with me through this time.” I’m glad Jesus felt free to ask for help – that’s how much he loved the disciples. He depended on them. Because you see, asking is love’s way of getting very close to those around you. So today maybe you have been in need of help – say for a ride to the doctor’s office or for your upcoming midterm exam – but because of the fears of being a burden or a bother, you have determined not to ask for assistance. Well, friend, let me ask you to not be afraid to ask. Remember, to ask is to love someone. It’s one way of getting very close.
