Episode Transcription

Somewhere in my desk drawer is a piece of concrete. It’s odd-shaped, having been chipped off a wall. But not just any wall. It’s a small remnant of the Berlin Wall from a trip Ken and I took to Germany in early 1990. Hi, I’m Joni Eareckson Tada, and for decades the Berlin Wall stood as a barrier, death-if-you-dare-cross-it divider between communism and democracy. I still remember when President Reagan stood before the Brandenburg Gate and issued the famous challenge, “Mr. Gorbachev, tear down this wall!” And two years later, it came down. Speaking of which, Ephesians 2 says that “[Jesus] is our peace… He broke down the barrier of the dividing wall.” It’s clear; our Savior does not want walls, and he’s made it possible for all people to find unity and peace with God and peace with each other. Barriers come tumbling down with the Lord and that’s something to remember if you’re facing a wall with someone today.
