Be an example of Christ. Be civil, gentle, and courteous to others around you.
Hi, I’m Joni Eareckson Tada. One morning, Ken and I drove away from our house in high gear, but we got stopped in our tracks at a red light. After waiting a full minute, we realized the driver in front of us had not pulled her car up far enough to trip the light. The next thing I knew, Ken opened the door, hopped out of the car, and—oh my goodness—Is Ken going to yell at her?But no. My husband kindly knocked on her window and with a smile, politely asked her to please move up just a little. And guess what, she took it kindly! As we drove on, Ken and I commented on the lack of courtesy in our culture. With all the honking, and yelling, and cursing that goes on these days, it seems as if we all need a reminder from Proverbs 15 where it says, “A soft answer turns away wrath: but grievous words stir up anger.” We as Christians need to set an example. So be civil, be gentle, especiallyat a stop light.
