A Moment with Joni Eareckson Tada

Be Controlled by the Spirit

Episode Summary

Don’t let anger take control. Instead, turn that anger God-ward.

Episode Transcription

Hi, I’m Joni Eareckson Tada. We all admit, there are people who can really get on our nerves. But what about when it goes beyond that? My friend Steve once told me he couldn’t stand his coworker [apparently the man never included Steve in any important meetings and would often give him condescending looks]. Steve even got to the point of saying, “I can understand why people murder!” Yikes! And Steve said that being a Christian! It’s clear his emotions were being controlled by this other man—and his pride—rather than being controlled by the Spirit. And it’s why Psalm 37 warns us, “Refrain from anger, and forsake wrath! … it tends only to evil.” So, please, friend, the next time you feel your temper building, don’t let it have control; when anger takes control, it only leads to evil. Instead, turn your anger God-ward. Those people getting on your nerves need to see Jesus through your humble response.
