Remember that no task is ever beneath you. Don’t let your pride put you to shame; be humble and feel the favor of God.
Hi, I’m Joni Eareckson Tada. When I landed in the hospital after my diving accident, I’ll never forget the first time my occupational therapist put a brush in my mouth. I spat it out. Drawing with my mouth was beneath me. But then one day they brought in a young man named Tom who had been paralyzed in a motorcycle accident. His disability was far more serious than mine, but Tom didn’t protest when they put the brush in his mouth. As I watched Tom struggle to write his name, I felt so ashamed. And no wonder. Psalm 97:7 says, “All who worship idols are put to shame.” Yep, watching Tom exposed my idol of puffed-up pride; and that’s what shamed me. Friend, remember that no task is ever beneath you. So don’t let your pride put you to shame; be humble and feel the favor of God. And thank you, Tom, for not only inspiring me to paint, but teaching me an unforgettable spiritual lesson.
