A Moment with Joni Eareckson Tada

Biblically Based Perspective

Episode Summary

Reject the lie that disability devalues life. Instead, uphold God’s truth that every life—no matter how broken—is sacred and worthy of protection.

Episode Transcription

Hi, I’m Joni Eareckson Tada. Not long ago, news broke of a Louisiana mother who poisoned her toddler with Down syndrome using hand sanitizer. To the mother, it was kind of a “mercy killing,” and she stated she felt her son was better off dead than disabled. Unfortunately, this lie is one that many—including Christians—have adopted. In the Old Testament, we read of an incident involving King Saul, who became seriously wounded on the battlefield. King Saul cried out to a soldier to “put him out of misery.” The soldier yielded to the king’s wishes and killed him. But when David heard of this, he ordered the soldier to be put to death, and that reflects the heart of God and his command to not murder. Christian listening, we must keep a biblically based perspective on these life and death issues, and you can do so by reading more at our Christian Institute on Disability page at joniradio.org.
