If you’re facing trouble or pain, ask God today to give you the attitude of Christ.
Hi, I’m Joni Eareckson Tada and I’m always intrigued by what happened in the garden of Gethsemane. There, Jesus is praying earnestly that the cup of suffering would be removed. Everything in him recoils at the idea of the cross. But then, in John 18, the soldiers approach, Peter gets out his sword, and Jesus sternly commands him to, “Put that thing away!” Now, just a few verses earlier, the Lord was praying that he not have to go through the suffering of the cross, but now, he was ready and willing to embrace it, and to be led away to Calvary. What a change of direction! And it inspires me. I’m encouraged to think Jesus knew he would have to stand alone in his hour of his death—and yet he faced it with royal resolve. If today, you are facing trouble or pain—and you want out—ask God to give you the attitude of Christ for every Gethsemane that comes your way today.
