Episode Transcription

Hi, I’m Joni Eareckson Tada. And raising a child with a disability is challenging—but doing so as a single parent is even more arduous. That’s what it’s like for Susan raising her two boys, including Ryder, who is 9 years old and has autism. Even though Susan is a Christian, just getting out the door on a Sunday morning is a huge undertaking. Trying to get herself dressed and ready; dealing with Ryder’s meltdowns at the breakfast table—oh, my goodness, it would test the faith of even the strongest mother! Thankfully, Susan’s church does provide some respite. Why? Because her church understands the message of Luke 14 that the Lord’s house just isn’t full until those with disabilities are invited and served. It has changed Susan’s life; but best of all, it’s changed the life of the church. To learn how your congregation can better serve people with disabilities, visit joniandfriends.org.
