Do away with double standards and choose God’s way.
Hi, I’m Joni Eareckson Tada and not long ago I wrote an Op-Ed article which was published in the Wall Street Journal. The title of it was “The Disability Double Standard.” And it’s true. On one hand we have all these laws providing access and opportunities; laws that safeguard the rights of people with disabilities; but on the other hand, we have assisted suicide laws that are opening the door for depressed people with medical conditions to end their lives. We can’t have it both ways. We cannot allow the rights of a person with a disability to fall under a subset of other more significant ones; that is, the right to choose, especially if it involves the death of another. The Bible says, “There is a way that seems right to a man, but the end thereof is death.” So, let’s do away with double standards. Let’s choose the way that seems right to God because the end thereof is always life!
