Do you know someone who is discouraged? Encourage them by singing a hymn or a Psalm to them, and let the power of worship change you both.
Hi, I’m Joni Eareckson Tada. My friend John Wessell travels to various head-injury centers, ministering to people in comas. John will pull up a chair by their bedside, reach for his guitar, and worship the Lord alongside them. Can the person in a coma hear him? Do they know what he’s singing and praying? Well, John tells me that some people in comas, their countenance actually has changed. It’s because there’s something about biblical music – hymns, songs of praise, worship – music that brings comfort to an aching soul, right? And I know you’ve experienced this, and Jesus and his disciples did as well, especially when they sang a hymn only hours before Jesus was nailed on a cross. Maybe you know someone in a coma or someone who is sick or discouraged. If so, let me encourage you to sing a hymn or a Psalm to him or her. And let the power of worship music to God change you both.
