When trials tempt you to break your commitment, hang in there – there’s a great reward waiting for you.
Hi, I’m Joni Eareckson Tada. And have you ever been tempted to throw away your confidence? Just last week I was traveling to speak at a conference. A jarring van ride through winding roads resulted in severe back and hip pain causing a sleepless night. As I lay in bed trying to ignore my pain and will myself to sleep, a tempting thought crept into my mind: “Maybe I won’t go to that churches staff meeting tomorrow. Will I really be missed? I mean, how much effect will I have anyway?” You know, trials challenge our commitments, don’t they? Just think about commitments that we give up on: marriage, wayward children, finances. But Hebrews 10 warns us, “Do not throw away this confidence. Trust in the Lord. Remember the great reward He brings you! Patient endurance is what you need [right] now.” So, when trials tempt you to break your commitment, hang in there. Remember there is a great reward awaiting.
