Are you hurting right now? Cry out to God, and he will give you his peace.
Hi, I’m Joni Eareckson Tada, and my heart goes out to people who suffer with physical pain. My friend Michael wrote to me saying, “When tumors were pinching on my sciatic nerve, I was forced to my knees in tears. I could not stand the pain. I shut myself in a room, lay on the floor, and cried aloud to the Lord, ‘I am not leaving here until you do something: kill me, heal me, but do not let me suffer like this!’” But then he wrote to tell me he heard a still small voice: “‘Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your [heart] be troubled and do not be afraid.’” Suddenly, Michael’s anxiety vanished, and courage began to rise. Oh friend, you can endure almost anything, Michael tells me, if you know Jesus is lying on the floor facedown with you, right there in the midst of your suffering. Are you hurting right now? Then cry out, the Bible says. And guess what? God’s peace will be yours.
