Episode Transcription

Hi, I’m Joni Eareckson Tada. And recently when we were distributing wheelchairs and Bibles in Uganda, Dana [one of our Wheels team members] noticed that many of the disabled children being carried in all shared the same last name: “Ajok.” Dana thought this was curious, but when he asked why, he was told Ajok means “cursed” or more literally, “little demon.” How heartbreaking! And it shows the incredible stigma that surrounds children with disabilities in developing nations. Well, we opened the Bible and showed these parents that allboys and girls, no matter what their disability, are image bearers of our wonderful God. You can imagine their change of heart – these parents decided, “no more Ajok!” Truly, together we are not only changing lives through the wheelchairs – we are changing cultures!
