May your hands keep reaching for God’s word, and may your eyes stay fixed on Jesus.
Hi, I’m Joni Eareckson Tada. Some people find Jesus’s approach on the topic of lust just a bit too harsh. Because he says in Matthew 5, “If your right eye causes you to sin, gouge it out, throw it away. And if your right hand causes you to sin, cut it off and throw it away. It is better for you to lose one part of your body than for your whole body to go into hell.” Yikes! When it comes to lust, God prescribes a severe operation. That's because if we don't deal severely with lust, then a glance becomes a gaze. Something we would normally dare not touch becomes something we brazenly handle. And the result: We get a seared conscience that ends up mistaking evil for good and good for evil. So, if your hands are to reach for anything, and if your eye is to look anywhere, be warned. May your hands keep reaching for God’s word, and may your eyes stay fixed on Jesus.
