Have you asked God for your daily bread today?
Hi, I’m Joni Eareckson Tada. When I was a child learning to say the Lord’s Prayer, I always stumbled a bit, saying “give us this day our daily bread.” I mean I thought: God knows we need it; why doesn’t he just supply it? Why not ask for bread for a whole week or a month or a year? It’s the way we want things, isn’t it? Yet God has determined that we should feel and recognize our daily – no, our hourly dependence on him. And there’s a reason why. That way, we will have to go often to his throne for help. We will be constantly reminded of his love. We will be reminded daily that we are needy, and he provides; we are weak, and he is strong. We are nothing without him, and we have everything through him. Exodus 16:21 says, “Each morning everyone gathered as much [manna] as he needed.” A day’s supply for a day’s need. Have you asked God today for your daily bread?
