Remember you have a Savior who’s gone deep for you.
Hi, I’m Joni Eareckson Tada. Sometimes I wonder if Jesus limited his pain on the cross; you know, kind of like, used his divine powers to somehow mitigate the full force of spiritual and physical agony? I wonder that when I am in physical pain; what guarantee do I have that Jesus plumbed much darker depths than the rest of humanity? Well, I have a guarantee. Mark 15:23 says “They offered him wine mixed with myrrh, but he did not take it.” It’s a simple verse, but so powerful. In order to offer a sufficient sacrifice, our Savior had to go the whole way. Nothing must be held back. And wine with myrrh [a little biblical pain-reliever] would have softened his misery. But he would have none of it – it would’ve lessened his complete work on the cross. What work does God want to finish in you? It may involve hardship and deep pain. But remember, you have a Savior who’s gone deeper still.
