Find an anchor, like a favorite Bible verse to help you live through your hardships.
Hi, I’m Joni Eareckson Tada. I remember, shortly after my diving accident, I was in the hospital lying on a gurney in the hallway outside the urology clinic. After two hours of waiting there, a lab worker finally came to announce that I’d be “first up after lunch.” Oh, no! Another hour of staring at the ceiling? My heart sank. Now, I knew enough about Christ to hold onto biblical hope or else I’d go crazy. So, I decided to comfort my soul by softly singing a hymn. With that small decision, I purposed that my hospital stay would be a gymnasium for my soul, not a jail sentence. And that made all the difference, not only then but in future battles. Psalm 42 says “Why are you downcast, oh my soul? Put your hope in God.” For all the times you’ll wonder how you will live through your hardships, find an anchor in Scripture as your resolute act of defiance against discouragement.
