A Moment with Joni Eareckson Tada

Delight in Hardships

Episode Summary

Be responsible for the way you react to trials, whether self-inflicted, or trials not of your own making.

Episode Transcription

Hi, I’m Joni Eareckson Tada. It’s one thing to muster a godly response when we bring troubles on ourselves, but it’s a different matter when trials not of our making hit us broadside. Like a diagnosis of cancer or a clumsy linebacker breaks your son’s leg in football practice or an old friend drags your name through the mud. These are the kinds of trials that are hardest to deal with. But look at the Apostle Paul. He did not bring that shipwreck on himself. He did not instigate that death threat in Damascus. Yet never does he groan, “Oh for Pete’s sake, here we go again.” Instead, he says, “For Christ’s sake, I delight in hardships.” And friend, that’s such a great example for us. Let’s be responsible for the way we react to trials, whether self-inflicted, or trials not of our own making. Let’s honor God and say for the sake of Christ, I will trust Him. I will keep following Jesus.
