Today, set aside your anger and learn from the Savior.

Episode Transcription

Hi, I’m Joni Eareckson Tada. And my friend Angela can be pretty hot tempered at times – yes, she’s a follower of Jesus, but she’s also Italian, and often justifies her outburst of anger with, “I can’t help it. My genes keep getting the best of me. I’m Italian and I just don’t have the emotional filter that most people have.” Well, I say, that’s ridiculous – and I have told her so. We might try to blame our faults on many things, but on a region of the world in which we were born? I don’t think so. Jesus says in Matthew 11, “Learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart.” Wow. Of all the wonderful character-qualities Jesus asks us to learn from him [and he has quite a few], he chooses these two qualities: Gentleness which is, of course, a lack of anger. And then humility; that is, a lowly estimation of yourself. Today, your Savior is asking you to set aside anger and ambition to learn from him.
