Want to bring recognition to yourself? Choose to be humble and no damage will be done.
Hi, I’m Joni Eareckson Tada. And at our old office building, I was known for accidentally damaging the corners of walls with my wheelchair. Well, one morning as I came in, I found a chunk of plaster lying on the floor. And I knew that I hadn’t done that damage. And so, my response was to let everyone know “Joni didn’t do that.” But then I discovered it was done by one of our faithful volunteers—Hilary in her wheelchair – and I was so embarrassed. Because my “wanting others not to think ill of me” was puffing up my pride and inadvertently making Hilary look bad. Oh friend, don’t be too quick to distance yourself from damage done – it may reflect poorly on someone else. Remember, Proverbs 29 says, “Pride brings a person low, but the lowly in spirit gain honor.” Want to bring recognition to yourself? Then choose to be humble and no damage will be done.
