A Moment with Joni Eareckson Tada

Embrace the Battle

Episode Summary

What God is doing in you and through you because of your trials is something to give thanks for. Don’t let the enemy win the battle.

Episode Transcription

Hi, I’m Joni Eareckson Tada. Some people have faulted me for talking about ‘my cancer;’ they say, “You shouldn't call it ‘yours.’ It's that cancer,” as though it were something odious that should be kept at a distance, like it really wasn’t a part of me. Well, I'm not going to be that politically correct. Yes, cancer is a pernicious enemy, but it is my enemy. It is a battle I have embraced. I have “entered into” cancer and come out the other side all the better for it. So I talk about “my cancer” as I would “my quadriplegia.” These difficult things have taught me so much about myself and about the grace of God. It’s why the Bible says to give thanks in everything and for everything – sure, everything isn’t good – there’s no inherent goodness in cancer or quadriplegia. But what God is doing in me and through me because of it? That’s what’s great. And it’s a great way for you to look at your problems today too.
