God doesn’t engrave your name, but more importantly, he has engraved you.
Hi, I’m Joni Eareckson Tada and when I was a kid in school, I remember taking an ink pen and writing the names of my close friends on the palms of my hands – maybe you did that sort of thing, too. But guess what? God has done it, as well. Except the Lord goes a giant step further. God says in Isaiah 49:16, “See, I have engraved you on the palms of my hands…” Did you catch that? He doesn’t engrave your name on his palms; he engraves you. Not just your name, but you. Everything about you: your hopes, dreams, faults, failures, ups and downs; everything that makes up who you are, God has carved that into his hands. Friend, he’s not just holding you; he closes his hands and feels the impression, the precious carving, the one-of-a-kind engraving of you. You are a part of him. And that, if anything, should make you trust and obey him today all the more, today.
