Episode Transcription

Hi, I’m Joni Eareckson Tada with a question: what does the word “humility” mean? Philippians 2 says, “In humility, consider others better than yourselves.” Well, there you have it: the quickest and surest path to humility is to do just that – to esteem others better than yourself. It is to push others in the spotlight when you’re itching to be in it. Humility happens when you get into a conversation and do more listening than talking. Humility occurs when you sit down to have coffee with your neighbor and genuinely ask how they’re doing. Humility is when you are not quick to raise your hand in Bible class when you know the answer and the next answer and the next. And it’s when you say, “Forgive me,” in recognition that you did something wrong. That is humility. It’s not easy, but it’s something we’ve got to do. So, pray with me today, would you? “Jesus, in humility, help me to consider others better than myself. Amen.”
