Episode Transcription

Hi, I’m Joni Eareckson Tada. As a mother of a daughter with autism, Jackie knows what it’s like to show up at a worship service and be received with open arms, but on the next Sunday have everyone glaring at her family. That’s because Haley, her daughter, is mostly nonverbal and communicates with loud noises and flapping her hands. But First Presbyterian Church of Aurora, Illinois reassured Jackie that her daughter Haley could attend Sunday school in their “All God’s Children” disability ministry. It was there, Haley learned biblical songs and how to say—that’s right, Haley can say the words “Jesus loves me.” All because First Presbyterian followed the Luke 14 command to fill God’s house with the disabled. So, friend, if you know someone who is looking for a disability-friendly church near you, contact your local Joni and Friends Area Ministry office through joniandfriends.org. And again, that’s joniandfriends.org.
