Sometimes you just need people to lend a listening ear when you feel broken. Even Jesus asked his disciples to stay and pray with him.
I’m Joni Eareckson Tada. And my friend, Theresa is a pastor’s wife and women’s ministry leader. You’ll often find her wearing a smile and encouraging others, but sometimes? Theresa says she just needs space to “let her walls down,” and have other women lend hera listening ear when she feels broken. And you know what? Theresa’s not alone—and neither are you if you are in a position of influence in your church. Before his death, Jesus himself asked his disciples, his friends to stay with him and pray with him. That’s because, well, we all need support when we feel pressed in. So, let me share with you what I told Theresa: Find a group of Christians—maybe a network of fellow pastors or an online forum of mothers in ministry—people who will be “quick to listen.” And then? With discretion, climb down off the leadership ladder and open your heart.
