Episode Transcription

Hi, I’m Joni Eareckson Tada, and my friend Rika has lived for decades in extreme pain. To help keep her focus on God, she practices her three “R”s: restrain, remember, and recalibrate. She says this; she says, “When I am in pain, my thoughts need restraining! [Because it’s] so hard not to worry or think ahead, but it’s imperative I keep my focus on ‘today.’ And when things get harder? I look back and remember time and again how faithful [God has] been to me… Finally, I listen to an encouraging or comforting sermon every evening… God has a way of using that to ‘recalibrate’ my thoughts at the end of the day.” Well, friend, there you have Rika’s 3 “R”s for when you are in pain; restrain your thoughts, remember the faithfulness of your God, and finally, recalibrate your focus. Good advice for anybody in pain!
