Be like Jesus and say yes to new friends! There are so many people out there who are hungry for companionship.
Hi, I’m Joni Eareckson Tada. And recently, we received news that a special volunteer, Bethany, had passed away to be with Jesus. Her mother asked us if our Joni and Friends staff could attend Bethany’s funeral. She explained that we were Bethany’s “only friends.” Although we were honored to attend her service, we could not help but be saddened at the thought that well, we and just a few others were Bethany’s only friends. There are so many people like her; people out there who need a friend. First John 4 says to “love one another” with the love that comes from God. God [who, by the way, is no respecter of persons] went out of his way to make friends; even Jesus is called the Friend of Sinners. So, take a moment and think about those who are hungry for companionship and then befriend them! Love them. Because Bethany and I, and most importantly Jesus, will thank you.
