Hi, I’m Joni Eareckson Tada. When Zach—a young man who recovered from a serious brain injury—signed up to volunteer and serve at Family Retreat, we just knew he would be a great fit for Nick. That’s because with Nick’s cerebral palsy, they both had experienced what it’s like to have a disability. But the neat thing is, Zach and Nick were able to connect much more closely than just two guys with disabilities. Everywhere you turned, there they would be, having [what they called] ‘dude time’—eating chips, enjoying the outdoors, laying back. Philemon 1 says friendships should bring great joy. Well, this friendship did exactly that for both Zach and Nick. When was the last time you spent some ‘dude time’ or ‘girl time’ with someone who has a disability?
