A Moment with Joni Eareckson Tada

From Sky to Sky

Episode Summary

Nothing is more calming, more quieting, more hopeful to the troubled mind than rehearsing how deep and wide the love of God really is.

Episode Transcription

Hi, I’m Joni Eareckson Tada. And just listen to these lines from this old hymn: “Could we with ink the ocean fill, And were the skies of parchment made, Were every stalk on earth a quill, And every man a scribe by trade, To write the love of God above, Would drain the ocean dry. Nor could the scroll contain the whole, Though stretched from sky to sky.” Wow! In 1917, those beautiful words were found scrawled on the wall of a mental asylum. And whoever wrote it, must’ve done so to keep his spirits hopeful. Despite the man’s torment, he could know that the love of God would see him through many a dark night in that awful place. The lesson? Yes, even Christians can suffer from mental illness. So, if I am describing you, remember: nothing is more calming, more quieting, more hopeful to the troubled mind than rehearsing how deep and wide the love of God really is.
