A Moment with Joni Eareckson Tada

Fruit of Encouragement

Episode Summary

Be mindful of what comes out of your mouth – lift others up instead of tearing them down.

Episode Transcription

Hi, I’m Joni Eareckson Tada and I remember one time when I flew into Los Angeles from back east. I was exhausted! Tired and in pain, I waited for everyone else to get off the airplane so that the gate agent could bring the aisle chair and help transfer me out of that airplane seat. Well, when he got on the plane, I heard him ask the flight attendant, “Is she fat?” His words just made my achy, tired self feel worse. But then another gate agent came on board, and when he saw me, he said, “Mrs. Joni, my nephew Kevin has cerebral palsy. Thank you for the impact you’ve had on his life.” Right then the Lord really lifted my spirits. Proverbs 25 says, “A word fitly spoken is as apples of gold.” So, what’s been coming out of your mouth recently? The fragrant fruit of encouragement, or the rotten fruit of derision? Because remember, friend, a word well spoken is an apple of gold.
