Today, take the first step and say something gentle. Grace, peace, healing, and forgiveness will then be yours.
Hi, I’m Joni Eareckson Tada, and like all married couples, Ken and I do disagree at times. I remember once when a quarrel was still hanging heavily in the air, Ken and I; we just sat there in stubborn silence. Finally, my husband spoke up and said, “Okay, we don’t measure up to each other’s expectations” [followed by a long pause] so maybe we should just pray.” I knew Ken was right but at that moment, I didn’t feel like praying for him or with him. But as my husband began to pray, tears started flowing. And hearts started melting. Proverbs 15:1 says that “A gentle answer turns away wrath.” And I would say, so does a gentle prayer. Oh friend, if you are in a disagreement and getting the cold shoulder from your spouse, take the first step; take the initiative: say something or pray something gentle. Grace and peace, healing and forgiveness will then be yours.
