Sin can steal your joy, just as it did David’s, but turning to God opens the door to restoration and true joy.
Hi, I’m Joni Eareckson Tada. You know, there is no portion in Scripture more full of remorse than Psalm 51. There David comes to God with a heavy heart begging, “Have mercy on me, O God, blot out my transgressions. I mean, this man was overwhelmed by his sin — and no wonder: David wrote it after he was confronted about his adultery with Bathsheba. And so, David pleaded in the same psalm, “Restore to me the joy of your salvation.” Friend, when you are entangled with sin, it sucks the joy right out of your life. So today, if you are lacking the joy of the Lord, ask yourself, what hidden sin am I harboring? Jealousy, pride, spiritual laziness, or bitterness over past hurts? Or maybe [like David] it’s a sin of the flesh. Whatever it is, get clean before Jesus today and just watch him restore your joy.
