Faith means being sure of Christ’s commitment to you, rather than your commitment to him.
Hi, I’m Joni Eareckson Tada. And what does it mean to have faith? Some might say that it is when you take a strong “Stand for Jesus” or when you are firmly committed to the Lord. But I don’t believe faith has much to do with commitment or allegiance. No, when you place your faith in Christ, you are not so much taking a stand for him, as you are acknowledging the stand he has taken for you. 1 Peter 1 says, “Through him you believe in God, who raised him from the dead and glorified him, so that your faith and hope are in God.” Your faith is only where it is because of what Jesus did for you. Any patience or joy or kindness in your life, it’s a gift from God; nothing of our own accord or merit. Faith means being sure of Christ’s commitment to you, rather than your commitment to him. So give him the glory—because it’s not about you or me; it’s about Jesus.
