Today, be a winner and look for someone who’s stumbled and give them a hand.
Hi, I’m Joni Eareckson Tada. When she was in training for the Summer Olympics, Abbey D’Agostino’s coach told her: “In the case of a fall: pick yourself up and keep running!” Well, if you saw the 5000-meter race, you will recall that Abby did fall and another runner fell with her. But Abbey did not follow her coach’s advice. She did pick herself up, but when she saw the other runner still on the ground, Abbey stopped to help her, surrendering any chance of winning a medal. You see, Abbey had other training that came into play that day. In her own words: “My actions were instinctive; God prepared my heart to respond that way.” You know, Abby is a great example of 1 Timothy 4: “Physical training is good, but training for godliness is much better.” Today, look for someone who has stumbled and give them a hand. It is the winning thing to do.
