Hear Joni delve deep into the meaning of the Trinity.
Hi, I’m Joni Eareckson Tada. And early on in my Christian walk, I learned that God was triune; that is, he is Father, Son and the Holy Spirit. The idea of the Trinity, I have to confess, at first confused my prayers a little. In the New Testament, formal prayer is usually offered through Christ to the Father in the power of the Holy Spirit – case in point is Ephesians 2:18, “For through [Jesus] we both have access to the Father by one Spirit.” But often I wanted to simply address my prayers directly to Jesus. And you know what? The New Testament supports that, as well – there are lots of examples of people praying directly to the Savior, including Paul who pleaded with Jesus three times to remove his thorn. [And we all know the Holy Spirit is very happy with that because he never draws attention to himself but always points to Jesus]. So go on and pray, friend – all three members of our triune God are listening!
