Tune in to hear Joni talk about what it really means to be meek.
Hi, I’m Joni Eareckson Tada. Matthew 5 says, “Blessed are the meek, for they will inherit the earth.” Well, what does it mean to be “meek”? The dictionary defines a meek person as someone who is humbly patient when provoked by others. So, how do you know if you are meek? Well, when someone violates your rights or provokes you to anger, how do you respond? In a society where we pride ourselves on defending our rights, we forget that those rights—the right to be understood, the right to privacy, you name it—those rights are not ours. God owns them. They are gifts that he graciously gives us, his children. And what we dedicate; that is when we “give back” those God-given rights to the Lord, well, then we have nothing to be angry about. If our rights are stepped on, guess what? We have no cause to be offended. Only cause to be humbly patient. And that’s what it means to be meek.
