When it comes to worshipping God, remember to follow his guidelines—and not yours.
Hi, I’m Joni Eareckson Tada. Does it ever seem to you that God’s specific commands regarding sacrifices, offerings, vows, new moons, and feasts in the book of Numbers are too exact, too meticulous? Well, when it came to Israel’s neighbors, they were the kind of people who worshiped whoever they wanted and in whatever way they chose—it was all about “me.” But that’s not the way the God of the Bible wanted his people to worship him. And so, God provided exact details about how he was to be adored. After all, how else could Israel have been separated from the rest? Friend, we may not have to mix exact portions of oil and flour or check the lunar calendar to offer the Lord our devotion, but John 4 says, “His worshipers must worship in Spirit and in truth.” So, when it comes to your worship to God, remember to follow his guidelines—and not yours.
