Remember, you are God’s ongoing masterpiece, lovingly shaped through pressure and purpose to reflect the character of Jesus.
Hi, I’m Joni Eareckson Tada. And I once watched a sculptor at work on a statue of clay. She pushed against that clay with all her might, working intently and often wetting it down so it might yield more easily to her hands. And it so reminded me of Ephesians 2:10, “For we are God’s workmanship, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.” Since you and I are divine works of art – something that God is still making – our master artist will not be satisfied until our human clay has a certain character. He loves us and he’ll take endless trouble to shape and conform us to the image of his son, Jesus. We might wish he would not love us so hard, but God knows our limits. And so, he continues to work intently, while we gladly yield to his divine pressure. And we are glad because we would not dare wish for a less glorious destiny!
