When you are Gospel-humble, you enjoy freedom in Christ and freedom in self-forgetfulness.
Hi, I’m Joni Eareckson Tada, and you know this Scripture well: humble yourself before the Lord. Well, my friend McKenzie is, I believe, a Gospel-humble person, ’cause I watch her in groups. She is so interested in other people. She is always asking them how they are doing; what’s up; how’s their family; how can she help them or pray for them. And she means it! I’ve watched her for a long time. She doesn’t need to always connect everybody and everything to herself. For her, Gospel humility means that she stops looking at every experience and conversation as it relates to her. And as a result, she enjoys the most delightful freedom in Christ and a freedom in self-forgetfulness. C.S. Lewis said that “humility is not thinking less of yourself, but thinking of yourself less.” And so, may I say, imitate McKenzie as she imitates Christ?
